Stainless steels are in general, not as corrosion resistance compared to the other two classes of products. It rather offers an extremely tough and strong nature with a high degree of machinability. It can be even be hardened through heat treatment.
The martensitic stainless steel plates encompass chromium (12-14%), nickel (<2%), molybdenum (0.2-1%), and carbon (about 0.1-1%). The perfect composition gives it hardness thus making it brittle.
The stainless steel 317 coils contain combined microstructure of ferrite and austenite in 50/50 mix. The strength of slatting coils is approximately twice as that of austenitic stainless steel. This then improves corrosion resistance. It thus has features as high-stress corrosion and crevice corrosion toward cracking and works nicely in acidic solution. The perforated coils have high chromium (19-32%), & molybdenum (5%) content. It also has lower nickel content as that of austenitic stainless steel. The SS properties get achieved along with overall alloy content compared to performing austenitic grades.
Testing and documentation-
The testing of the SS 317 plates,
sheets, and coils contain tests like hardness test, flaring test, flattening
test, micro, and macro test. A special test is Positive
material identification, intergranular test, and third-party inspection. The
